PICTURES: London, England

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Well well well. It’s been nearly a month, and I’ve finally got some pictures up on the web. Part of the delay has been technology. You use what you get at Internet cafes. Fortunately, I found a cheap place that gave me the ability to connect my camera, as well as upload to the web. The downside is that it has taken hours and hours, plus the time to get the slideshow tweaked (as per some suggestions/requests).

Around London – These shots were taken in various spots around London. They include the touristy stuff like St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Parliment, The London Eye, and some other stuff.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens – These are various pictures taken on one of many walks in the park. Included, a guy names Albert, and a massive concrete Queen!

Abney Park Trust Cemetery – An overgrown cemetery in London. Opened in 1839, and is now A cool place to walk, and take pictures. It’s litterally a cemetery in a forest.

Highgate Cemetery (East) – Another amazing cemetery in London. Same idea as Abney Park, but a bit different. These pictures are just of the East cemetery, as the West is closed to the public, other than on tours (I’ll have to go back there one day).

Give Pigeons A Chance

At this point, I’ve officially been in London for just over two weeks. The funny thing is that I’ve yet to see many of the sights. Specifically, there are a number of free museums that I have yet to make it to, and I have yet to see a Shakespeare play at the Globe Theatre.

You are probably asking yourself, “How can this guy be in London for two weeks and not see everything there is to see?” This is a very good question, let me explain. Although there are sights that are “need to see” places, my priorities are more off the beaten path, away from the tourist scene. Part of the reason for this is that I hate waiting in long tourist queues in order to pay £15 and be pushed past some attractions for an hour. I prefer to do things at my own pace. I’m sure many of you are laughing your heads off as you’ve noticed how slowly I eat. Yes, I’m a bit slow, but it’s relaxing, you soak in more, and you get a much better appreciation for things. Although I do have a historical interest, my primary interests at this point are the cities, the people, and the culture. (more…)

Where Are All The English Girls??

This is it. The first post on my travel blog for the trip that I’ve been talking about for years now. In short.. I made it happen and am so far at least over the Ocean.

For those of you whom I haven’t spoken to in awhile, I will start with a brief summary of the end days before my departure. I was back working at Electra temporarily, to make some cash, and fill a void that was created when someone left.

I booked my ticket to London my last week of work so that I would not be able to put things off any longer. I figured one month would give me enough time to clean up any loose ends and get everything in order for the trip. (more…)
