Soujourn to London

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

One of my friends was doing a climb of Kilimanjaro and was stopping in London for a couple days.

We met up in London, met up with one of her co-workers, and had a super-lovely Thai dinner (which she even bought for me!). After which, we met up with this guy Joe that she had met on the plane. Interestingly, Joe was moving to London for a job that he had been promoted into at Bacardi. (more…)

Shirtless in a Cemetery

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

A typical breakfast for me generally involves going to Sainsbury’s or Tesco and picking up a couple yogurts and some pastries. Pastries are tasty, and yogurt is good for you (me) as it’s got active bacteria (acidopholis being one of them).

From there, I would generally stroll to a nearby park, have my light breaky as I listen to music and watch the park life.

Sadly, in the area that I’m staying now, there are NO parks. I couldn’t believe this, so I got out my map one afternoon and set out on a hike. What did I find? No parks. Found some gardens, but they are all gated, for “keyholders only”. Sadly, they’re really nice gardens as well. To clarify, they don’t mean anyone who’s got a key, it’s got to be a key to the gate.

So I found an alternate the other day. It’s called Brompton Cemetery, and is lovely. It’s quite large, well maintained, and had loads of people hanging out reading, chatting, walking when I first stumbled upon it. It’s a few minute walk, but this is where I set out to this morning. (more…)

PICTURES: London Nights, May 2006

This seems like ages ago (it was.. about a month), but here are some pictures from a couple nights out on the town while in London. They’re not real exciting, and are mainly being published for the sake of the people in them!

London Nights, May 2006 – Piccadilly Backpackers Nights Out

PICTURES: London, England

Well well well. It’s been nearly a month, and I’ve finally got some pictures up on the web. Part of the delay has been technology. You use what you get at Internet cafes. Fortunately, I found a cheap place that gave me the ability to connect my camera, as well as upload to the web. The downside is that it has taken hours and hours, plus the time to get the slideshow tweaked (as per some suggestions/requests).

Around London – These shots were taken in various spots around London. They include the touristy stuff like St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Parliment, The London Eye, and some other stuff.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens – These are various pictures taken on one of many walks in the park. Included, a guy names Albert, and a massive concrete Queen!

Abney Park Trust Cemetery – An overgrown cemetery in London. Opened in 1839, and is now A cool place to walk, and take pictures. It’s litterally a cemetery in a forest.

Highgate Cemetery (East) – Another amazing cemetery in London. Same idea as Abney Park, but a bit different. These pictures are just of the East cemetery, as the West is closed to the public, other than on tours (I’ll have to go back there one day).
