PICTURES: Lake District, Cumbria, England

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

In the not so distant past, I found myself heading to Birmingham for a meeting. I ended up staying in jolly old England for the weekend and headed up to the Lake District to relax, do some hiking, and thinking.. about life.

Whenever I go to England, there are a few people that I always think about. One of which, I have not seen in ages, and whom I met and spent much time with not far from Birmingham. Her name is Caroline Bayley. Due to bounced e-mails from months before, and her being a bit of a vagabond, I had no way to get in touch with her to try to organize a visit. I decided to contact her family, and in so doing was thrown aback by the response. Caroline had died. She was a year older than I, and never made her 30th birthday.

This heart-wrenching news, and the fact that things at work has not been going well is why it was a relaxing / thinking weekend.

It was a bit of a wet weekend, but it didn’t matter. A perfect mix of rain and sun. Let’s just leave it at that…

Soujourn to London

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

One of my friends was doing a climb of Kilimanjaro and was stopping in London for a couple days.

We met up in London, met up with one of her co-workers, and had a super-lovely Thai dinner (which she even bought for me!). After which, we met up with this guy Joe that she had met on the plane. Interestingly, Joe was moving to London for a job that he had been promoted into at Bacardi. (more…)

The Ticks of New Forest

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Before leaving Canada, I had heard and read about this beautiful place in the South bit of England called the New Forest. Sadly, I didn’t think that I would make it there as I saw it as out of reach, as well as I never ended up getting a tent to come along with me.

Funny how things work out however, as my friend Annemarie was kind enough to drive me out into the forest, as well as take me to pick up a cheap 2-man tent. When I say cheap, I mean it. This is the cheapest tent that I’ve seen.. ah.. ever. It’s not great, and is a bit bulky and heavy, but it does the job on my budget. (more…)
